iFarm - Taking up the Challenge from Local Farmers

Seamus has been sharing an office at the sale yards with a number of people.  One of them is Suz Bremner from iFarm. Being impressed with this homegrown company, Seamus requested more information for our readership.  A Hawke’s Bay company is relishing the challenge from farmers throughout the country for more in-depth and up to date market information to make informed decisions. iFarm provides accurate, timely and independent information directly to the farming sector through subscription based products.

The company produces and delivers three regular market related reports by email to subscribers:

‘Livestock Eye’ - provides the most comprehensive market reports for eight key saleyards across the country including Stortford Lodge, Feilding and Matawhero.  Reports are delivered within hours of the sale which mean subscribers receive accurate and independent market information ahead of the pack. A key innovation is that iFarm staff weigh a sample of each pen of store lambs to provide pricing on an actual not estimated per kg basis.

‘Market Insight’ - gives comprehensive coverage of all the markets including accurate benchmark pricing on meat schedules, store prices and international commodity prices on a weekly basis.  Meat schedule pricing in Market Insight includes both schedules and premiums making it significantly more accurate than other pricing available in the rural media. And iFarm are also forecasting prices into the coming week.

‘Market Outlook’ - provides in depth monthly forecasts for lamb, beef, venison and wool pricing.

iFarm Managing Director Jon Sherlock says iFarm is all about meeting the needs of an increasingly information hungry farming community.  He says it is clear farmers are no longer making their decisions on just their gut feeling or what they hear across the fence.  “Today’s farmers are telling us they need in-depth and timely independent information to make important decisions such as when to buy and sell stock, so that’s what we are giving them,” says Jon.

iFarm also recently launched ‘Navigator’, a monthly guide to on-farm profit.  Navigator provides subscribers with farm management information and advice from a network of sheep and beef farm advisors and industry experts. Each iFarm report is carefully researched and prepared by a team of experienced staff, all of whom come from an agricultural background and know what farmers want. When it is not recording the information itself, iFarm can tap into its extensive network of industry contacts. Jon Sherlock says farmers can’t be everywhere and iFarm sees itself as a ‘farm of information’. “We are the eyes and ears of farmers. Being on the ground in sale yards allows us to feed the relevant information back to farmers without them having to be everywhere or read everything.” He says by keeping up to date through iFarm publications farmers throughout the North Island are getting the best possible information and advice to allow them to make good profitable decisions and in turn reap the on-farm benefits.  If you haven't read any of iFarms publications before, then we recommend you do.
