The region contributes largely to the economic and aesthetic wealth of the Hawke's Bay and is a common retreat for those seeking a more laid back lifestyle. The relative proximity of towns such as Waipawa and Waipukurau to Hastings and Napier has resulted in more commuters taking advantage of the more affordable housing.
